The European Commission has been investigating Airbnb since last year and in June announced that the company has now done everything that the Commission considered necessary to comply with EU consumer protection law, in particular:

  • indication of the total price on the results page including charges and fees
  • indication of whether the offer comes from a private host or a professional
  • easy access to the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution Platform
  • clarification that EU citizens can sue Airbnb in their own countries
  • no unilateral modification of service fees by Airbnb
  • Airbnb has to justify booking cancellations and provide for appeal
  • Airbnb's refund policy and timeframe have been clarified
