| BRIEF HISTORY AND ROLE |
Founded in 1984, the Portuguese Council of Shopping Centres - APCC, is a nation-wide and non-profit association with 58 members representing a total of 70 shopping centres with a Gross Leasable Area of 1.185.561 m2.
The associated shopping centres cover 5.187 small and large retailers, representing approximately 50.000 jobs.
All members are also affiliated members of ICSC – International Council of Shopping Centers. |
| PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES |
The objectives of the Portuguese Association of Shopping Centres are the protection of the legitimate interests and rights of the owners, developers and managers of commercial developments designated as Shopping Centres, as well as enhancing their standing, the legal and strict definition of this type of integrated commercial complex, and to mediate with Public Administration entities in the preparation of legislation.
Training. • Organises conferences and seminars on subjects relating to commerce in general and to the shopping centre industry in particular, for the training of professionals of the sector.
• Arranges technical visits to shopping centres with characteristics are of special interest to members.
Relationship with institutions. The APCC is in permanent contact with the Government to protect the interests of the sector, co-operating in the preparation of specific legislation, participating in meetings and presenting documentation on the position of the Association with respect to specific matters affecting the shopping centre industry .
Research. • The APCC makes specific studies of the sector through Technical Committees operating in Marketing and Management, Architecture and Urbanism, and Legal areas.
• It maintains a permanently updated database with information on the Shopping Centre members of the Association.
Public Relations. The Association provides the press and Government institutions with up-to-date information on shopping centres and on their business ventures, to promote the image of the sector. |

- Institutional members, those which, within the scope of their activity, study, analyse or express views on the design and location of shopping centres.
- Company members, companies directly or indirectly co-operating in the design, construction, marketing, and in the promotion or management of shopping centres.
- Complementary members, companies running anchor shops with an area in excess of 2000 m2, or running commercial chains with more than 5 shops, partially or totally located at Shopping Centres. |
| PUBLICATIONS |
• The association issues a monthly newsletter, circulated to all its members, with information on the activities of the APCC and national and international news relevant to the sector.
• It publishes a monthly magazine entitled SHOPPING - CENTROS COMERCIAIS EM REVISTA, circulated to numerous public sector entities, national and foreign, besides its members and the respective shop owners.
• Since 1996, it has published a Directory of the sector containing the characteristics and information of all Shopping Centres registered with the APCC.
