| BRIEF HISTORY AND ROLE |
The Swedish Property Federation was founded in 1914. More than 20,000 private property owners - with a total of more than 44,000 properties - are members of one of Sweden’s 7 regional property owner associations. The regional property owners associations are affiliated to the Federation. The property assets held by the members are valued in excess of SEK 325 billion.
The objective of the Federation and the associations is to make management of property in private ownership a more efficient and generally well respected line of business, that offers improving service to tenants. |
| PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES |
Lobbying. The Federation represents the private property owners’ interests by means of contact with politicians and the media. The Federation is also the principal body consulted directly by government about proposed legislation affecting the property industry. The Federation monitors all relevant proposals for legislation to ensure that members are well informed and advised on developments affecting the Swedish property industry. Formal written submissions are backed up by frequent meetings with members of the Government and Parliament. The Federation also maintains contact with organisations representing other sectors of the property industry and its customers.
Research and development. The Federation initiates and supports research and development activities within the property field.
Education and training. One of the main tasks for the Federation is to improve the members' knowledge so that they are well prepared for their business.
Members’ services. Membership of a property owner’s association gives access to a number of services. The association can, for example, take care of total management of properties. It can provide help in rent negotiations and in discussions or disputes with tenants or authorities. It provides advice on technical, economic, fiscal and legal matters. It can offer favourable terms in connection with the purchase of fuel for heating, white goods, insurance, etc. and by means of information sheets and training it ensures that the members are kept informed of changes in the field of rents and property.
Through a special subscription, the Federation offers specialised information, education and support for the largest property companies. The Federation also holds meetings, seminars and annual conferences for the exchange of ideas and information, designed for both the employees at the regional associations and their members. |
| ORGANISATION |
The supreme policy-making body of the Federation is the Congress (every fifth year), representing the 7 regional property owner associations.
The General Assembly makes decisions yearly about the budget of the Federation and chooses the members of the Board.
As support for the Board, there is a national executive group, consisiting of the Managing Directors from the Federation and the Associations.
Ad hoc project teams are set up to look at subjects of particular interest. |
