BRIEF  HISTORY  AND  ROLE
Formed  in  its  present  form  in  1974,  but  with  origins  stretching  back  to  the  nineteenth  century,  the  British  Property  Federation  is  the  UK  trade  association  of  the  property  industry,  representing  owners  and  investors  in  commercial  and  residential  property.  The  property  assets  held  by  BPF  members  are  over  £100  billion.

The  Federation’s  role  is  to  sustain  and  promote  the  interests  of  all  those  who  own  and  invest  in  property  in  the  UK.
PRINCIPAL  ACTIVITIES
Lobbying.    The  BPF  is  the  principal  body  consulted  directly  by  government  about  proposed  legislation  affecting  the  property  industry.  Formal  written  submissions  are  backed  up  by  frequent  meetings  with  Ministers,  advisers  and  senior  officials.

Members’  services.  Updates  and  Alerts  are  sent  regularly  to  members,  explaining  any  important  developments  which  require  consideration  or  action.

The  BPF  holds  meetings,  seminars,  lunches  and  an  Annual  Conference  for  the  exchange  of  ideas  and  information.

The  BPF  hosts  an  annual  luncheon  which  is  regarded  by  many  as  the  premier  event  in  the  property  calendar.  A  prominent  guest  speaker  addresses  over  1100  members  and  guests.

Close  links  are  maintained  with  the  media,  enabling  the  BPF  to  represent  the  interest  of  members  on  television,  on  the  radio  and  in  the  national  and  trade  press.

The  BPF  maintains  contact  with  organisations  representing  other  sectors  of  the  property  industry  and  its  customers  with  a  view  to  promoting  mutual  understanding  and  co-operation  wherever  possible.
ORGANISATION
The  Federation  is  governed  by  a  Board  of  Directors,  which  is  assisted  by  a  General  Council  and  a  Policy  Committee.

The  services  for  members  are  provided  by  standing  committees  and  working  parties  made  up  of  members,  and  are  serviced  by  the  Permanent  Secretariat.

Other  committees  cover:  Accounting,  Construction,  Planning  and  Environment,  Residential  Property  and  Investment,  Taxation  and  VAT.  The  Federation  frequently  establishes  ad-hoc  working  parties  to  look  at  subjects  of  particular  interest.
